"It's rare to find a jazz band in this town that gigs regularly and doesn't play those
same tired tunes that we've all heard a million times. "Misty?" Are you kidding
me? Granted, I am a huge jazz guy who has classic records by names like
Coltrane, Parker, Mingus, Davis, Dolphy, et al. Unfortunately, I don't really listen
to new jazz that much. And I definitely haven't found many reasons to see new
local jazz aside from the occasional show at the Outpost Performance Space.
That is until I ran across Le Chat Lunatique..." "Le Chat Lunatique," or "The
Crazy Cats," is a young, energetic and increasingly disciplined set of musicians
who are obviously enamored with Django Reinhardt and Gypsy swing music.
Accentuated by the violin of Muni Kulasinghe, who actually spent a number of
months in France, playing this very style of music, their sound is both laid-back
and lively, giving impetus to either dance all night or sit back and sip drinks."
